Understanding list, cash, and savings prices

Three common price labels, what each one means, and why the cheapest-looking number is not always the number you will pay.

8/18/2026 · Truvela Editorial

When you see a price for a medication or service, it usually falls into one of three buckets.

List price

The manufacturer-published price before any discounts, insurance, or rebates. It is a benchmark, not a personal price.

Cash price

The price a pharmacy or clinic charges someone paying without insurance. This can vary by location and sometimes by pharmacy.

Savings-program price

The price after applying a manufacturer discount or cap. Eligibility rules apply, and the cap resets monthly or annually.

Why this matters

Comparing a savings-program price to someone else's cash price is like comparing two different products. Truvela labels every price with its type, source, and verification date so you can compare like with like.
