Manufacturer savings programs are discount or cost-cap programs offered by the companies that make a medication. They are not insurance, and they do not change the underlying list price of the drug.
How the programs usually work
Most programs reduce the amount a patient pays at the pharmacy for each fill, up to a monthly or annual cap. The discount is applied at the point of sale, and the pharmacy submits the program information along with the prescription.
What they do not cover
Savings programs typically do not cover the doctor visit, labs, or any clinic membership fees. They also often require that the patient have commercial insurance and exclude government payers.
Verify before you rely on a number
Terms change. We verify manufacturer pages on a fixed cadence and record the source URL, date, and conditions. If a price looks off, check the source directly and tell us if we are out of date.
